私たちと次の世代のために、私たちを取り巻く世界をより良い場所にしたい。そのためには、はじめに、私たちが、私たちを取り巻く世界を理解し、短期的・長 期的にどのように関わりあっているのかを知らなければならない。地球上に私たちが存在することにより、私たちは、自分たちに危害を加えていることもあれ ば、他人や取り囲む環境に影響を及ぼしていることもあるが、それらの大きさを認識していない場合は多いはずである。

現代においては、電子による無料コミュニケーションが発達し、誰もが開かれた社会に無料で出版できる可能性を持つようになった。このおかげで、私たちは、地球上のグローバルな課題について、たくさんの人々の考えやコンセプトを共有することができる。

異なった社会において、人々がどのように暮らし、どのように関わりあっているのかを知ることにより、私たちは、自分たちが、共通して必要なものが何である かを認識することができる。そして、その共通して必要なものというのは、平和、経済、安全、平等、教育、環境、情報である。

私たちは、「世界をより良く」するためにこれらの分野に取り組む人々が「何を見て、何が必要であると感じ、それに対してどのように取り組んでいるのか」をドキュメンタリーとして製作し、世界中の人々と共有したいと考える。

To make the world around us a better place for us and for those who will succeed us, firstly we have to understand our surroundings and know how we interact with each other and with the environment in the short and long terms. Our existence on earth should be calculated in terms of how much harm we cause with our ways of life and how that influences other people and the ecosystem.

In this era, with the advance of free electronic communications and possibilities for anyone to publish freely to an open-ended, worldwide community, we can share inspirational concepts and concrete ideas for addressing questions of global concern. Learning how people live and interact in other societies will make us aware of our common needs. We see these basic needs as peace, safety, equality under the rule of law, economic security, shelter, the right to education, sustainable ecology, and access to information.

We would like to produce documentary videos about people active in various disciplines respected for their perception, commitment, and achievements in working toward “a better world,” to share with others around the globe “what problems they see and foresee, what they believe are effective solutions, and how they work to achieve their goals.”

今日の日本において、地球温暖化の影響によると考えられる洪水の被害が増大している。日本政府もまた、この状況を深刻に捉え、2006年には「大規模水害対策に関する専門調査会」を設置し取り組みを始めた。実際、2008年8月末豪雨では、愛知県で洪水が起こり、100万人以上に避難勧告が出された。ところが、行方不明者のほか、自宅に居たところ浸水被害を受けたと考えられる死亡者を2名出す結果となった。言うまでもなく、洪水・浸水から人々を守る対策の必要性は明らかである。

日本の都道府県では、治水対策として、より堤高の高いダムの建設等に取り組んでいる。しかし、これらの対策で、高齢者、子供、身体障害者等を被害から守ることができるのかは疑問である。

この問題を解決するため、私たちは、軽く断熱効果の高いXPSを建材として浮かぶ家の建築試験を行いたいと考えている。環境省の地球環境研究総合推進費による温暖化影響総合予測プロジェクトの報告書「地球温暖化『日本への影響』-最新の科学的知見-」（2008年5月発表）によると、2030年には、洪水・浸水による被害額は年間1兆円を超えると推定している。しかし、XPSを使った浮かぶ家が機能すれば、洪水による被害や対策費を軽減できる可能性がある。

地球温暖化の影響による洪水・浸水の問題は、日本だけではなく世界の課題である。また、海面上昇は、オランダやバングラデシュ等の沿岸国に住む多くの人々に影響を及ぼす。私たちは、この建築試験事業を行うことにより、日本と世界中の国の人々に貢献したいと考える。

Today in Japan, the number of damages caused by floods is increasing probably due to global warming. Japanese government also considers this fact as critical situation and starts organizing an expert panel on large-scale flood control measures. In reality, more than 1 million people were order to evacuate when the flood hit Aichi in August, 2008. However, as a result, some people went missing and two people died, although they stayed at their home. It is apparent that measures to protect people from floods are necessary.

One of the measures that local governments in Japan consider is building higher dams. Yet, there is a question if these measures can protect elders, children, disabilities and so on.

To solve this problem, we would like to test a floating house built with XPS, which is light and an excellent insulator. According to a report (May, 2008) of a project “Comprehensive Assessment of Climate Change Impacts,” funded by Japanese Ministry of Environment, the amount of damage from flood in Japan will be more than a trillion a year in total after 2030. By using the material, however, it might be possible to reduce the damages and burden of expense for countermeasure against floods.

Flood and submergence because of global warming are not issues only in Japan but world wide issues. Also, sea level rise affects large number of people who live in the coastal countries such as the Netherlands, Bangladesh, etc. We believe that this project will contribute to the people in Japan and other countries all over the world.
